Smoke photo and a Christmas fair

I'm very grateful to the Smena Photographic Society for giving me the opportunity to produce this photograph, using a very basic lighting setup but one I probably couldn't have achieved by myself...
On another note, I'm going to have a stall at a Christmas fair in the Dark Horse Inn, Dublin, from 2.30pm. I'll have mounted prints in different sizes, some framed prints, and also Christmas cards! If you're around, I'd love to see you there!

Pur-pose photography exhibition

Old and new, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.
I was very happy to be contacted to take part in this photography exhibition at the George Bernard Shaw pub, Dublin, from the 6th to the 24th of October. I'm going to have one framed work there which will be alongside that of other 12 photographers. I take a lot of my graffiti shots right beside that pub so I decided to do a collage of 3 of those for the exhibition. This will be one of them.

Moate culture night

Very happy to have taken part in the Studio 93 open art and photography exhibition at Moate Culture Night with other artists from the Tinderbox Network of which I'm a member. A million thanks to Alan Nagle who gave us the opportunity! This was my entry, a framed print of 'Upside down world', a photograph I took in July 2010 while on holiday in Ballydehob, West Cork. I also submitted some small prints of my Dublin monochrome work.

Cd cover collaboration

I was very happy to be given the opportunity to collaborate in the design of this music Cd which features  street musicians playing traditional Irish music with my photograph of Máire Una Ní Bheaglaoich playing the concertina. The other musicians in it are Catalin Cojocariu (violin), Brenda Malloy (harp), who contacted me about the collaboration, and Isabel Ní Chuireáin (guitar and keyboard). A million thanks to Máire and Brenda for giving me this opportunity!

Dunbrody rigging 2

Dunbrody rigging 2, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.

The Dunbrody was a 19th Century three masted sailing ship that brought many emigrants from Ireland to North America during and after the Great Famine. I took this during a guided tour of the replica of the original ship built in 1845. It’s in New Ross, co. Wexford.

Maypole dancer

Maypole dancer b&w, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.
A Maypole dancer from the Active Age Group, Drumreilly, Co Leitrim. I took this candid portrait at the 2011 Harold's Cross Community Festival on the 8th of May last. The Maypole dance is an old tradition at Harold's Cross that has recently been revived at the festival. Local historian Joe Curtis explains in his book about Harold's Cross that in the 14th century the Archbishop of Dublin maintained a gallows on the green of Harold's Cross where criminals were hanged. Later on, a Maypole replaced the gallows and was the centre of much merriment and dancing every May, until the practice ceased around the middle of the 19th century.

Zoomed Liffey view

Zoomed Liffey view, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.
Took this at the river Liffey (Dublin) on May 21 while on a photo walk with two flickr friends. Thought it would be fun to try the zoom effect. Here's the same view without the zooming, taken on the same night using a long exposure. Samuel Beckett bridge by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava on the right and the Convention Centre building on the left.

St Audoen's archway b&w

St Audoen's archway b&w, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.

I took this during a walking tour part of Handel's festival given by historian Pat Liddy. I tried the infrared effect here for the first time. I thought it brought up the leaves very nicely. St Audoen's arch is the last remaining gateway of the old city of Dublin.

St Patrick's Day 2011

St Patrick's Day 2011, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.

I enjoyed using the long lens at the St Patrick's Day parade for the first time. I found shooting the crowd more interesting than the parade itself. This is my favourite shot of the day.

Knicker art

Knickers galore, originally uploaded by Esther Moliné.
Found this jewel of a shop front during my trip to Madrid last weekend for my school reunion. If you happen to be in Madrid, go find it, it's on calle Ventura Rodriguez, not far from the Templo de Debob. Buy something in it, we should try and maintain this kind of shops!

I was in Girona (Catalonia, Spain) last week, beautiful place. Here are some photos of the trip, a street in the old district, the Pujada (climb) de Sant Domenec (lots of steps in Girona!), and a view of the river Onyar for the ironwork bridge Pont de les Peixateries Velles (old fishmongers bridge).

I took quite a few photos during a foggy morning recently. I think this one's my favourite. I took it at the pond at St Stephen's Green. I want another foggy day!
